One Nation Under God

On this first meeting after Independence Day, the birth of our country, we will want to consider the blessings of this country, our country’s founding truths and principles as well as our responsibilities.  We offer the readings and thoughts below for your consideration.

Readings

Psalm 33:12 (This verse acknowledges God’s favor and blessing upon a nation.)

Psalm 118:5-6 (These verses express trust in God’s protection and provision, which can be a source of comfort and strength in challenging times.)

Galatians 5:1 (This verse highlights the spiritual freedom found in Christ, a concept that resonates with the idea of independence and liberation celebrated on the 4th of July.)

Sharing

  1. Why do you think that many of our founding fathers used the word “Providence” to refer to our Almighty Father?  What does that word mean to you? and do you think that it still is applicable today?”
  2. What do you see as the blessings of living in this country of ours?
  3. What do you see as challenges facing our country, especially in the areas of respect for one another, division, world peace, Catholic Christian values and other issues?
  4. What examples do we see in the great men in our country’s history?
  5. What are our duties as Catholic men to our country, “One Nation Under God”?  What can we do?  How can we affect the culture?

We also want to be open to wherever the Holy Spirit leads us.  Come, and invite a friend!
