Family. Friends. Parties. Gifts. Food.
Each Christmas, we receive many gifts to be thankful for. Among the most important of these are encounters with Christ in newer and deeper ways. We experience Him at Christmas Mass, and perhaps we see Him in other circumstances or opportunities of the season, too.
As recipients of His love, we’re also asked to share this great gift with others. So as we head into the New Year, we’d like to discuss how we’re called to evangelization as Catholic men in today’s world.
Readings:
- Matthew 28: 16-20
Sometimes known as the Great Commission, this is where Christ calls his followers to go and spread the Gospel, making disciples of all nations. - Luke 10: 1-12
Jesus sends his disciples out in pairs to ‘begin the harvest’. - John 4: 39-42
The woman at the well witnesses about her encounter with Our Lord. - Catechism 425, 429
Discussion Questions:
- There are lots of ways of evangelization, depending on the particular gifts, personality, etc. that God has blessed us with. Some people are great “preachers” or apologists. Others do great mission work. Some find little opportunities in the routines of life. What are some of the ways God uses you to spread his Gospel? How can you better embrace those opportunities in the coming year?
- Sometimes we see the fruits of our evangelization efforts really easily- if a family member or friend joins the Church, for example. Can you share an example of a time when God has worked through you to bring someone closer to him?
- Often times, we may never know in this life what impact we’ve had on a person or situation. Do you find this frustrating or discouraging? How do you deal with it?
We also want to be open to wherever the Holy Spirit leads us.
Please come and bring a friend to this session. Feel free to forward this message to any man you would like to attend this meeting. See you there!
